i saw this essay on neocities talking about how theres a bunch of passionless people who make sites and they should delete their sites bc theyre clogging up people who actually have things to say and are passionate ab their interests. I would dm them on discord, but they left the site ages ago and I don't want to bother them. I disagree with the essay. i feel like if someone likes coding thats passion enough, sure their sites are boring but making the sites are the chance for them to get a hobby and actually say something. websites are for everyone, even people that don't really have obsessive passions over things. trying to gate keep it feels against the feeling of the internet welcoming everyone from all gates of life and getting to meet those people. while yes neocities does have a lot of unoriginal sites that do kinda clog up space, (i'm looking at you lain sites that are just a bunch of pretty graphics that dont say much) im happy theyre here ! i think the problem is more pretentiousness on neocities and people feeling like theyre better than other people for not using social media. the only way to get good at something, including being passionate, is to practice, and if someones only passion is coding, thats okay ! the biggest issue with the internet is the lack of privacy and variety given by social medias, (which there still is nothing wrong with using) and if people want to keep the internet indie and not controlled by corps, we need to welcome most people, even people who don't really have much to say except about their personal life.
i worry i sound defensive and that the only reason i'm talking about this is because my website is like how they describe, but i dont think it is. I just dont want to make people feel like they cannot make a site and they continue to add money into the pockets of billionares that own major social medias.
